Football Saturdays down south are serious business, y’all. Every Saturday, from September through November, our schedule revolves around football. Alabama football, of course, because that’s who we cheer for. But also every game that’s played in the SEC.
Football is serious in the south. In Alabama, sides must be chosen. Alabama or Auburn. Roll Tide or War Eagle. It’s either-or, never both.
Usually, we spend those Saturday’s with friends. Piled up in front of the TV with lots of gameday foods–chick-fil-a nuggets, sausage balls, Rotel dip, jalepeno dip, smoked Boston Butt, soapapilla cheesecake, pumpkin cookies, homemade ice cream.
We’ll cheer for the Tide, for whoever is playing against Auburn and against Tennessee.
The big kids will play outside if we’re lucky, or inside if it’s raining. They’ll eat way too much ice cream and cheesecake. They’ll run away so much and get so nasty that no pictures will be taken of them.
The babies get passed around to any available pair of arms. All decked out in Bama gear, of course. And when the last games been played and all the foods gone, the oldest girls step aside for some photo shenanigans. Because that’s the best way to end a football Saturday down South. ?
