This week, I’m documenting a ‘Week In The Life’ of the Wests. A Week in the Life is a project started by Ali Edwards (of scrapbooking fame). I try to document a week in our lives twice each year–once in the spring and once in the fall. It usually coincides with Daylight Savings Time, somehow. Way back when I was an avid scrapbooker, I created entire albums around these weeks. Now, I just document them on this digital internet scrapbook ahem blog.
Today, let’s take a look at our Sunday.
Sunday morning, we woke up in a rush. Thanks to the good ol’ time change, we slept way past the time we needed to be up getting ready for church. At around 9 am, we all jumped out of bed and began getting ready in a frenzy. Thank goodness for being at Pops and GraGra’s house–they made a delicious breakfast of biscuits and chocolate gravy, eggs, and bacon that we were able to eat in a rush.
Somewhere in the middle of getting ready, Justin’s cell phone rang and he got called in to work. I love some overtime pay, but getting three kids ready on a Sunday morning by myself is no joke.
The kids and I did make it to church. We missed Sunday school and we were about five minutes late for the service, but we made it.
Justin finished his call-in about the time we were leaving church, so we met him for lunch at Red Lobster. Both girls can eat their weight in seafood, so it’s one of our favorite places. Kyndall ordered crab legs and Libby shared the grilled shrimp plate with me. PS: Red Lobster had the absolute best caesar salads of anywhere. Do yourself a favor and order it with extra croutons. It adds that extra umph.
After lunch, we did some grocery shopping. Right now, that’s our Sunday afternoon tradition. (Because we are all about the fun traditions, you know. Ha!)
Once we made it home and put all the groceries away, it was time for some real fun. We piled on the four-wheeler and took a ride through the pasture. I have taken lots of pictures since we’ve been back at the farm, but 85% of them are of cows. I just love cows.
Unfortunately, our four-wheel riding, cow photographin’ fun got Bella all wound up. She decided to round up some cows and ran the young heifers right through the fence. That put the heifers in the same pasture with Big Daddy the bull (that’s not his real name. We don’t really name our cows…) and that’s not good. So we (I’m using ‘we’ loosely here, you see) spent a little while rounding up the runaways and fixing the fence.
When all the cows were situated back where they needed to be, Libby had makeup work to finish. She missed all of last week at school thanks to a horrible fever virus, so she had some stuff to take care of.
While she finished homework, Kyndall and Mallory went for a run, Jase napped, and I did a little reading in my most favorite magazine.
I didn’t get a whole lot of reading in though, because Kyndall and Mallory’s run ended in disaster. Bella struck again, this time at Kyndall. Right when Kyndall was hitting her running pace, Bella barreled in and took her feet out from under her.
Scraped knees, scratched elbows, skinned-up hands, and a road rash all down her side. A hot bath in Pops and GraGra’s big tub made it feel a little better.
We had a little extra time before bed, so we called a mini Family Game Night into play. We love playing spoons–it’s the perfect game because you can play as many or as few rounds as you have time for.
We made it to bed around 8:30, which is what time we try to get the girls in the bed on school nights. Justin stayed downstairs and watched a rerun of the Nascar race and I curled up in bed to read a few chapters in Fervent by Priscilla Shirer.
A few things to note about this post:
- Every single picture in this post is taken with my iphone. My Canon camera has had a good run, but I got it when I was pregnant with Kyndall. That means it is over ten years old and past time for an upgrade. I am trying to convince Justin to buy me a new one, but it’s kind of hard to justify that purchase when we are getting ready to build a new house.
- Not pictured:
- GraGra and Mal helping with bathtime–just one of the million reasons we are loving living with them right now.
- All five of us piled onto the four-wheeler. Five humans plus one four-wheeler equals a literal pile.
- Pops propped up in the recliner because he is still trying to fight this fever virus. He is going on his 7th day of fever and sickness.
- Jase. At all. This is a strange turn of events, because for the entire year of his life I have taken no less than a hundred photos of him each day. But none for today, of course. Jeez.
